Why mums?
Like our community, Chrysanthemums bloom in a vibrant array of colors with a long history across the globe. Each is unique, beautiful and carries meaning. The purchase of just a single mum supports the health and well-being of community members in Burke County - from the mom of three needing a family checkup to the farmworkers laboring to put food on our tables. Each flower represents a Burke County community member your purchase helps.

The Good Samaritan Clinic
The dream of a Good Samaritan Clinic in Burke County was sparked in the mid 1990s when three nurses, Ruby Seitz, Ann Azbell, and Mary Lloyd, had a conversation about the need for health care for those in our community who were working at low wage jobs without the benefit of health insurance. They launched their free clinic with an all volunteer staff, in June 1996.Since opening its doors in 1996, Good Samaritan Clinic has provided low-cost healthcare to more than 10,000 local residents valued at more than $90 million. Through volunteer commitment and strong community partnerships, the clinic provides more than $5 million in free medical care and prescriptions annually.
Our patients represent the most vulnerable segment of our community. In order to qualify, patients must be residents of Burke County, have no private or government health insurance, and have household incomes less than 200% of federal poverty levels. |
